Midterm Next Monday #
- On Wednesday we’ll do a review
- Next Monday: Midterm Exam
- This will cover material including today’s lecture.
One More LLM Demo #
- http://kraken:9931/
- Upload an image, “describe this image”.
- Part of the model converts the image to a series of tokens, may be some words, maybe some non-word “visual impressions”, (think: a single “is to the left of” token).
Boolean Logic and Algebra #
- Computers store data as bits.
- A bit distinguishes two values, which we can talk about as 0/1, low/high, true/false, red/blue, etc.
Especially interesting interpretation: true/false
- Reasoning about true/false isn’t new. Philosophers have been trying to figure that out for thousands of years.
- George Boole formalized true/false reasoning mathematically in his 1847 book. That’s before computers and even before much practical application of electricity (although the telegraph was deployed, electric motors existed, and there were bad electric light bulbs).
Boolean Logic Basics
- Three operations: AND, OR, NOT
- Truth tables
- Different ways to write expressions (at least three notation)
Luanti #
Last semester we did this part in Minecraft. But Minecraft costs like 30 dollars, so we’re going to try an open source clone: Luanti.
